The majority of our clients tell us they have visited at least one cattery before booking with us, this is good practice as the quality of catteries can vary. Remember if you're going away on holiday you should be confident that your cat is also having a holiday with excellent accommodation and care.
When you view a cattery take a check list with you and see if the cattery meets or exceeds your expectations. Below is a list that a good cattery should meet.
- When visiting the cattery you and your cat are made to feel welcome.
- The cattery units, litter trays and food dishes should be clean and tidy without any nasty smells
- The units should have shelves to sit on, windows to look out off and a scratch post
- Each unit should be Insulated, heated and lit without cats having access to dangerous glass bulbs
- There must be a barrier or gap between separate units so cats are unable to have physical contact
- The kitchen and reception areas are clean and tidy and the booking process professional . Cats use of litter trays, eating & feeding should be recorded.
- Does the cattery have staff qualified in animal care with a written care & training plan for staff to follow
- Do members of staff spend time with each cat and know their name
- Does the cattery have a licence, employers / public liability insurance and a fire certificate and have them on display
- Have the staff asked to see your vaccination certificate and asked about your cats requiremants such as food and medication
- Do staff who administer medication, give injections or care have a recognised qualification and maintain regular professional development
